She was in awe at the hundreds of pageant gowns Bridal Elegance has to offer and tried on a few exclusive Mac Duggal pageant dresses to get ideas for Miss Universe. We were very blessed to have her at our store and hope to work with her and the organization in the future as they were all very wonderful guests

We were also so pleased that Tim Kretschmann from the Pageant Cast was here for the entire weekend. Our pageant prep featured trunk shows from MacDuggal, Sherri Hill, the Lenz Collection and Tony Bowls, and a fashion show by Bridal Elegance and our great models- all visting queens!

Galaxy Weekend

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

Well, it was a whirlwind weekend full of pageant frenzy last weekend. We were so glad to see all our Illinois and Wisconsin Galaxy International contestants and friends. The competition was very tough in the Miss category- but the new Miss Illinois Galaxy is Gina Melchiorri from Bloomington, Illinois, and the first runner up was Marcella Gillen. All the contestants looked gorgeous!

The Galaxy Pageant is divided into 5 categories, each worth 20%- Interview, Photo,
Swimsuit, Fashion and Evening Gown. Tim Kretschmann, of the PageantCast, was a
terrific emcee and kept the pageants moving quickly. The newly crowned Teen
Illinois Galaxy is Rachel Barter. The new Mrs. Illinois Galaxy is Christine
Fascetti. Their beautiful director and our pageant coach, Stephanie Piller, was
there but it is her last year as director.

And saying goodbye, but not farewell, to Despina Ades, Zena Malak, Scherrie Davis and Lisa Simmons was hard. Definitely some of our favorite people.

Good luck to all and we will definitely see you at Galaxy Internationals in Orlando in July and we will have a booth!!!!

Miss Illinois County Fair Pageant 2012

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Courtesy of: David Spencer/The State Journal-Register

As many of you know, we recetly attended the Miss Illinois County Fair Pageant. It was great fun as always, and we enjoyed seeing our clients on stage! Cathy Redshaw, the new director, did a great job! Miss Lake County, Brittani Schisler, was chosen as the new Queen for 2012! We were fortunate to be seated by the family of Jackie Driscoll, the 2011 Queen, and truly enjoued seeing all of our County Fair friends. I probably should apologize to the gentleman that I was bidding against on the Bears tickets at the auction… But it was fun!

We are very proud to have provided the opening number dresses for the pageant and definitely enjoyed providing the free pageant coaching sessions that were given by Stephanie Piller in our Style Theater.

I love the crowd at the Miss Illinois County Fair Pageant and admire how they show up and truly support their Queens! It truly shows what a caring system you are!

“It Takes a Village” by Stephanie Piller

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

So you want to win a pageant? If you have been involved in pageants long you may have heard the expression that “it takes a village” From personal experience…it truly does!

I have won about 17 pageants in my lifetime and each and every time I have had a “team” of people helping and supporting me.

The most important place to start is knowing what kind of pageant you are entering. There are thousands upon thousands of pageant in the United States…making it very difficult to pick which one(s) to compete in. So, do your homework first and find out where you fit. They all look for different things. If you are strong in interview and communication then look for pageants that are geared towards those specifications and the scores are heavily weighted in those categories.

When it comes to preparing…build yourself a team! (A village!)

No matter what pageant you are competing in wardrobe will always be important! When shopping go to places that have a lot of stock so you can try different styles and see what flatters you best and take someone with you! Even take a couple people…unless you’re shopping here at Bridal Elegance where we have a pageant consultant to assist you. Me!

I am often asked are coaches necessary? I firmly believe that they are a very valuable asset. Just make sure they know the system you are competing in. I often in the past would hire 1-3 different coaches and work with them all. Varying opinions are a huge help and can make you really see the big picture. You don’t want a coach that does not give constructive criticism. You must know what you need to work on in order to improve.

Family is great for support but I would not take them pageant shopping with you or have them too heavily involved in your preparation or coaching sessions. They already think that you are fabulous and what you need is someone from the outside looking in to properly assess you and your pageant needs.

So in a nutshell…I would highly recommend building your village with family and friends for emotional support, 1-3 coaches for choosing wardrobe and styling as well as fine-tuning skills such as interview, modeling etc.

Don’t forget that here at Bridal Elegance we are the largest pageant retailer in the Midwest! Offering many custom and one of a kind gowns and swimwear! Our facility has a 4,000 square foot pageant room and an on-site pageant consultant that can assist you with any of your pageant needs!

“How to Choose the Perfect Pageant Gown” by Stephanie Piller

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

Are you looking for the perfect pageant competition gown?

Pageant gowns are usually one of the most difficult pieces of a pageant wardrobe to decide upon and can literally drive you mad trying to find the right one.

The most important thing to take into consideration is the type of pageant you are competing in. Make sure you know all the pageants rules and guidelines. They are all not the same. For example, do they allow cut-outs on the gown or high slits? Is it a conservative pageant or a high-glitz pageant? That is very important information when choosing a gown.

Below lists some general tips and guidelines that can help you choose the winning gown!

  • Make sure the gown is age appropriate. If you’re a teen, black gowns or gowns that are extremely low cut are generally not a good choice. Same rule applies for Mrs. Contestants…don’t choose gowns that are “too young” in nature.

  • Body type is very important! Know what styles flatter your body. If you are shorter avoid dresses that cut you off. If you are thicker through the hips or tummy don’t choose a gown that is fitted in that particular area. You will look best in a gown that flows well.

  • Color! Choose a color that does not wash you out but brings out your natural skin-tone. For darker complexions, Jewel tones are always a beautiful choice. If you have a lighter complexion avoid white, beige, gold, or yellow tones. It tends to wash out under stage lighting.

  • Know your budget before entering a store and never try on a dress that you know you can’t afford. It will only cause disappointment and make your gown shopping experience a negative experience.

  • Avoid choosing gowns that are meant for “prom” or similar occasions. They usually don’t hold up as well under stage lighting and are not the same quality and that will reflect upon stage against all the other gowns that were made specifically for pageants.

Follow these simple guidelines and your pageant gown shopping experience will be fun and less stressful and you will likely find your dream gown and score off the charts at your next pageant!
